Introduction to RNTC & RNW Media

RNW Media focuses both on engaging young people – primarily in the digital space – and influencing the societies of young people. Our approach is based on continuous innovation applying state of the art media tools and methods.

With innovative approaches to media and training, we connect communities and change-makers, contributing to a world where young people in restrictive settings confidently claim their rights, assume their place in society, and shape a better future. RNW Media has three programs: 1) Love Matters, 2) Citizens’ Voice, and 3) Economic Inclusion. RNTC is an aligned unit of RNW Media that focuses on capacity development.

RNTC Media Training

With 50 years of experience in journalistic training, RNTC is an expert in delivering accredited courses to media-makers around the world. RNTC has trained participants from and in developing and fragile contexts as well as the developed world. We are skilled at training journalists and media makers in understanding key development issues and training them to tell these stories more powerfully through traditional channels (print, radio, and television) and digital channels (web content; tweets, blogs, and vlogs). In developing and fragile contexts there is often a need for both.

RNTC offers concrete steps for critically minded media-makers to turn their aspirations into realities and act as guardians of public interest. RNTC’s training empowers media-makers to develop successful creative content and media formats that facilitate dialogue and debate among young people and those in power. Market segments that were trained by RNTC include: media outlets, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, think tanks, universities, and governments.

RNTC works at the intersection of tradition and digital media, civil society, and advocacy. As a result of our training, strategic partnerships, and global networks, we create an enabling environment for media landscapes to be pluralistic, independent, capable, and inclusive of citizens’ needs. Citizens access quality content and engage in discussion through media campaigns, to make important life decisions and hold decision-makers to account.

RNTC combines tools and platforms to create interactive and inspiring online training where RNTC’s learn by doing approach is integrated.

Our online training is offered as trainer-led online training or blended online training and coaching.  Our Online Learning Academy (OLA) allows for both self-directed and blended learning using practical case studies, video, animation, quizzes, and activities to stimulate distance learning.

RNTC offers a range of open and tailor-made online courses. We offer plenty of individual support from our expert trainers and interaction with both trainers and fellow course participants. This is not a boring lecture series, but rather an interactive learner-centered training that gets you to produce output along the way, individually, or in groups.

RNTC’s OLA Mission

Interactive, immersive, and practical learn-by-doing training online.

The RNTC uses a learner-centered approach that includes learning by doing.  A typical course is constructed of 40% Theory inputs, 30% discovery through practical assignments and group work based on controlled outcomes, and 30% applies to the participant’s own context or the world of work.

Our approach includes

  • Learning by doing, A student-centered approach where new knowledge is achieved through practical tasks, ensuring that our trainings are practical and relevant to our trainees.
  • Media for behavior change through traditional or online media
  • Practical application
  • Dynamic interactive workshops
  • Coaching and developing communities of practice.

Storytelling is at the heart of all RNTC’s training: there is no tool more powerful in creating media content for social change. Our ground- breaking methods build the foundation for content with a lasting impact.
