8. Mobilisation & Advocacy

What mobilisation techniques will you use? What are your calls to action? If you want to enact change, you need to engage public audiences with key issues to inspire support, motivate people and harness the energy of your community.

This unit will introduce you to a variety of mobilisation tactics and guide you in how you can use them in your own campaigns. In order to effectively respond to pressing social issues, it is also important that you have an understanding of advocacy. This is so that you can work in a legal context, strategize together with advocacy partners and mobilise collective action in order to achieve change in policies or laws.

After completing this unit, you should be able to:

  • Define the key elements of mobilisation and advocacy
  • Distinguish between different tactics of mobilisation, including through social media, traditional media and physical offline actions
  • Formulate your campaign calls to action
  • Compare and contrast different advocacy tools and activities
