In module 7 of the roadmap we focus on how online platforms can grow to be an alternative civic space in a challenging media environment. This is only possible when independent and inclusive digital media content and communities are created. Module 7.1 and Module 7.2 will go deeper into these important building blocks to building such an inclusive, alternative civic space.

Purpose
How do we create constructive conversation in polarised societies? How do we create and maintain digital communities in restrictive settings-across political, ethnic, racial, gender, regional or religious divides—when coming together is often impossible in the offline space.
This section details our strategic approach to creating inclusive civic spaces and online community building with young people in restrictive settings through our alternative, independent digital media content.

Learning Goals
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Understand what it means to build an alternative civic space online
- Understand RNW Media’s overarching inclusive approach
- Be aware of key concepts in media development that deal with inclusion and exclusionary communities.
